Convention and Meeting Facility Overview

Welcome to the award-winning Greater Ft. Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center, the country’s premiere waterfront conference facilities.

The 600,000 square foot center is architecturally designed to take advantage of our waterfront setting, highlighted by a wall of glass that runs along the entire eastern side of the building.  The centerpiece is a three-level glass atrium with a skylight that provides abundant natural light and looks out on a 1.3 acre fountain plaza, all while taking in the scenic Intracoastal Waterway.  Our meeting facilities are the perfect place to host any type of event.

The size and layout of the center makes it possible to host multiple clients at the same time or to dedicate our entire square footage to one large event.  Our flexible space consists of four exhibit halls, 2 ballrooms and 31 meeting rooms that can be configured in a variety of ways to meet the needs of any group.  A 2,500-space parking garage is connected to the center via two enclosed, air-conditioned skywalks, located at the north and south ends of the building.

High-tech services are standard in the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center.  Wi-fi hot spots are located throughout our meeting facilities, making communication for attendees easy and there is a Cyber Café that offers both permanent terminals and plug-ins for laptops.  While there, you also can enjoy a quick snack or light lunch while catching up on the latest news via the flat screen televisions tuned in to CNN/MSNBC.  If you need to conduct a meeting with a group or an individual who is off-site, the Teleconference Suite is the ideal spot.  This room is furnished with a large conference table, comfortable chairs, 2 pull-down screens and a flat screen TV, giving you the flexibility to communicate by a conference call or video.

Other state-of-the-art amenities offered at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center include digital monitors placed outside of three of the exhibit halls that provide scrolling news headlines against a backdrop of images showcasing the natural beauty of the area.  These also can serve as advertising space for local business partners or as an announcement platform for patrons.  And, placed throughout the facility is a digital signage system that tells people what’s going on in the building and where.  These signs also can be found outside each meeting room and can be customized to each event.  Additionally, the building has a business center, which offers a variety of services, including copying, faxing and packing & shipping assistance.

The award-winning food and beverage service at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center is second to none.  The extensive menu gives you a variety of choices, whether you’re looking for a box lunch, a buffet, a coffee break, an elegant catered banquet or anything in between.  If you don’t find something to your liking, we will custom design a menu for you and your group.  Once you have tasted our culinary delights, you will know why we became the first conference facilities to be awarded the prestigious Confrerie de la Chaines des Rotisseurs award.

Conscious of our impact on the environment, the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center is working towards Silver Level LEED Certification from the U.S. Green Buildings Council.  You will find evidence of this ongoing effort everywhere in and around the building, from lighting to recycling to environmentally friendly landscaping.  We are committed to finding and implementing new ways to provide maximum comfort and an even greater meeting experience for our clients.  To that end, we have created a “green” minisite and have posted several blog entries about our endeavor.

Location is still another reason why you should choose the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center as the site for your next event.  The building is a 5-minute drive from the airport, close to Port Everglades and is within walking distance to some of Fort Lauderdale’s most beautiful hotels.  Some of the activities you can enjoy during your free time while attending an event include golf and water sports.  Or, you can “cruise” the area via the unique Water Taxi as it takes you around the many canals, creeks and rivers that make up the Intracoastal Waterway, with stops along the way.  Best of all, the city’s most famous natural attraction, its Blue Wave beach, is less than 1 mile away from the center.  Add all of this to Fort Lauderdale’s gorgeous year-round weather and you have the ideal meeting facilities.

We invite you to explore our website, which was designed specifically to provide all the information you need to plan your convention, trade show, special event or food & beverage function at the Greater Ft. Lauderdale/ Broward County Convention Center.  Our enthusiastic and professional staff looks forward to welcoming you. If you have any questions about our Conference Facilites, please Contact Us.

Is your Building green? How can you certify it?

LEED® is an international green building certification system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It is a third-party verification system that provides a unique tool to building owners and operators. LEED® measures not only how the building was originally designed and built according to appropriate environmental standards, but it also recognizes the building’s performance in different key areas.

Organizations participate in the LEED® initiative as a voluntary effort to innovate through the environment protection. All types of buildings are suitable to get LEED® certified. Once the certification is granted, the building adds value in price and opportunities for government benefits. The advantages are not only for the owners, the tenants also save money in low energy consumption and waste reductions.

Buildings achieve the certification after being measured and rated using a point-based system. LEED® guides and encourages all the necessary actions in order to get the highest level of sustainability. There are seven key areas that are measured and scored according to the environmental impact they have:

  1. Sustainable Sites: The building needs to have a low impact on the site that it is occupying. This category considers the degree of development of the land chosen, the impact on the ecosystem and waterways, erosion, pollution, construction-related contamination and transportation systems.
  2. Water Efficiency: Water use reduction through smart technologies.
  3. Energy & Atmosphere: Utilization of different strategies to reduce the energy consumption. From the efficient design and construction of energy saving systems to the use of clean technologies that provide power to the building.
  4. Materials & Resources: Selection of sustainable products used in the construction. Strategies to reduce the waste and encourage the recycling.
  5. Indoor Environmental Quality: Use of good indoor air quality, access to natural daylight and improved acoustics.
  6. Innovation in Design: Use of innovate strategies and technologies in order to achieve results higher than the LEED® standard.
  7. Regional Priority: According to the location of the project, there are different environmental priorities that need to be considered when designing, building and operating a new facility.

The LEED® Green Building Rating System for Existing Buildings: Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance sets performance standards for certifying the operations and maintenance of an existing commercial or industrial building of all sizes. The intent is to promote high-performance, healthful, durable, affordable, and environmentally sound practices in existing buildings. Under this rating system, LEED® has designed different distributions of the points awarded to each of the areas explained above. The first five areas sum up to 100 points and the two last areas provide extra points to a maximum of 110 in total.

The certification is achieved through the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), in order to guarantee the quality of the LEED® certification process.

Going green is necessary and profitable. LEED® certification gives the right framework to achieve the environmental sustainability of any Building.
